Giant Impact Hypothesis

2023

This painting was created for a group exhibition Portalis, at Nottingham Contemporary. An annual collaboration between Nottingham Contemporary and Nottingham Trent University, Post and Undergraduate students join their disciplines of Fine Art, Interior Architecture, Photography and Graphic Design to research, produce and document an exhibition. This year, we had to respond to the exhibition: Hollow Earth: Art, Caves and The Subterranean Imagery

I began with journeys; the place between the before and after, the unknown, a place of discovery and adventure. Sitting deep within the earth, caves hide secrets of our long past, their stone walls whispering of the foundations of the earth. As a space artist, my mind leapt to the early days of our planet and a cataclysmic event that would change our young world forever: The formation of the moon.
